Moyasta Cottage is situated on a quiet, south facing site, offering beautiful views over the Shannon Estuary. The Area is a site of international importance for bird life with a diversity of habitats including mudflats, salt marsh and associated wildlife species and plant species. From the cottage there are views of Scattery Island and across to county Kerry.
The Loop Head Peninsula is surrounded by the River Shannon to the South, and by the Atlantic Ocean to the North with a majestic coastal scenery. The Shannon Estuary is home to more than 100 dolphins which can regularly be seen from the coast or on dolphin watching boat tours from Carrigaholt, just 20 mins. away. The rugged beauty of the area is largely unspoilt - so much so that the area can boast of having the purest air in Europe offering many exciting outdoor activities (see next page). The Loop Head Peninsula was the overall winner of the competition "The best place to holiday in Ireland" by "The Irish Times" in 2013!
The town of Kilkee is just 8kms away and one of the country's most popular seaside resorts with quite a few natural amenities around its horseshoe-shaped bay. The safe sheltered sandy beach is protected by Duggerna Reef, which is a natural wonder itself with some large and small rock pools full of marine life. Breathtaking cliff walks offer splendid scenery. This Cliff scenery all along to Loop Head Lighthouse is one of Ireland's greatest natural attractions.
Kilrush is a market and heritage town with access to the Shannon River through a modern Marina. One of its most interesting attractions is historical Scattery Island, an Irish landmark which can be reached by a boat from the marina.
The Wild Atlantic Way from Kilkee to the North brings you to the amazing scenery of Doughmore bay, Spanish Point Beach, Lahinch, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.
Ennis has picturesque streets with colourful shop fronts, the well preserved cloister ruins of Ennis Friary and Clare Abbey, the Glor Irish Music centre and the Clare Museum - all well worth a visit. A variety of traditional pubs provide traditional and contemporary evening entertainment. Ennis is also the gateway to East and South Clare with Bunratty castle and Folk park, Cragganowen Stone Age project and the Lough Derg area with more leisure options.
The Killimer Shannon Estuary Car Ferry is just 20 minutes away, making it easy to explore the neighbouring counties of Limerick and Kerry.
